Situated on the 200 acre Staverton farm in the picturesque Wiltshire countryside, between Bradford on Avon and Trowbridge. Michael Blake Racing boasts a full range of facilities for horses to train on the gallops and unwind with beautiful rides alongside the Avon River.
All the stables in this airy and spacious barn has rubber matted floors to minimise injury. Every stable has self-filling water bowls and horses are bedded on top quality dust-extracted shavings.
With it recently renewed flooring, this school is used for warm up, loose schooling, lunging and various other forms of exercise. It comes into its own in the most inclement weather, ensuring that horses never miss their daily exercise.
Also benefitting from renewed flooring, this is used daily for warming up the horses prior to the gallops. It's main use, however, is as a schooling area before the horses jump on the grass.
The six-furlong, state of the art, all weather activ-track can be used in all conditions and has an uphill finish. It is harrowed daily and the depth can be varied to suit the work required. A wide variety of grass gallops provide plenty of scope for horses to train in conditions favouring their needs.
Hurdles, fixed brush hurdles and steeplechase fences, including an open ditch, ensure that the horses are well prepared. Michael believes that if a horse cannot jump it cannot win!
It is also here, that the all the flat horses are taught and well familiarised with the starting stalls prior to racing.
A valuable tool on any yard, our five stall covered horsewalker has both rubber floor and sides and the additional benefit of lights. Every afternoon horses are given extra exercise here, bringing their time out of the stables up to about two hours.
We believe that its important horses don’t have to spend all day in their stables when they are not being ridden, therefore, our horses enjoy daily spells in the field cages where they have some fresh air, nibble of grass and can see what is happening on the farm and on the horizon.
After training or downtime following a race, our horses enjoy hacking around our beautiful farm. We feel this is essential to relaxing them and for their mental wellbeing. Tranquil hacking alongside the River Avon for over a mile, horses and riders then continue through woodlands and fields until they are back in the yard for a warm shower. Horses are happy at Staverton Farm.
